I am a teacher and an artist. One is intrinsically entwined with the other. The idea of flowers came from my mother.  She created beautiful gardens.  Growing up I would watch my parents dig the earth, and then my mother would plant colors, patterns, and textures, everywhere in our yard.

The most important element in my painting is the capturing of light and shadow in the flower. The blossoms are magnified to let the viewer stop and explore the colors and shapes of the composition, to see the familiar in a new way.  My intention is for the eye to move around the composition and into the spaces, for the observer to experience the sensation of the flower.

I live at the Cape in the summer and get most of my inspiration from the flowers growing along the shore.
