Adam Thompson is a painter and cartoonist, and a lifelong Oak Bluffs summer resident. He began painting and exhibiting on the Island in his teen and college years, creating work that explored local imagery from unusual and surprising angles. 

Adam studied art history and studio art at Yale University, and then received a Master of Fine Arts from Brooklyn College. He developed an interest in cartooning, and is currently a regular cartoon contributor to the New Yorker Magazine. His wide-ranging creative endeavors have included large scale art installations for companies including Logitech and Kargo Mobile, and gallery exhibitions and numerous New York and Island venues. He has also worked as animator, illustrator, and graphic designer, and has taught art at Brooklyn College since 2008, where he recently received the Bernard H. Stern Professorship in Humor.  

Recently, Adam has returned to his first artistic love of painting, with a focus on the island imagery that so inspired him in his youth. His recent paintings explore the interface between the human and the natural that so characterizes Martha’s Vineyard.
