Family-owned for more than 20 years, The Granary Family of Martha’s Vineyard galleries (The Granary Gallery, Field Gallery, and North Water Gallery) are recognized as representing fine artists local and worldwide. We are proud of our friendly, professional relationships and strive to make the customer experience memorable, lasting, and very pleasant.

Each summer, the galleries offer internships for college seniors and graduates. These paid positions invite candidates to experience all aspects of running the Gallery, including customer relations, art installation/display, sales, art handling, packing/shipping, exhibition management, art history, and sales. 

Through hands-on experience, thoughtful mentorship, art openings, and immersive participation in our unique workplace, we aim to inspire and educate our interns in an active art gallery and to help candidates prepare for the working world.

We are currently welcoming applications for the following positions:

 

Seasonal Full-Time Gallery Associate

Experience all aspects of running a gallery, including customer relations, art installation/display, exhibition management, art history, and sales.

It is a unique position offering responsibility for administrative duties, the opportunity to work with our roster of artists, and assisting the gallery owner and managers in and outside of the Galleries—passion for and knowledge of the art industry a must.

Typical hours are from 9:30 - 5:00 pm with weekends and some evening hours, depending on the Gallery’s scheduled events. 

 

Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience.

Qualifications and duties include but not limited to:

  • Self‐motivated, highly organized, able to handle multiple tasks at once

  • Possess strong verbal communication skills

  • Ability and willingness to work well within a team, as well as independently; enthusiasm and 

  • flexibility appreciated.

  • Strong administrative, professional, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Strong knowledge of and interest in contemporary art is a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have a flexible schedule and able to work weekends as the person in this position may be required to stay for openings, viewings, or other requests.

  • Ability to do simple physical tasks and lift and hang large artwork.

  • Knowledge of social media a plus.

  • Proficiency in computers and Google Suite

Logistics Manager:

The position: Gain hands-on experience in the field of art handling, packing, and shipping. Support all three galleries in shipping management, the final step of our team’s efforts in the sale of our artists’ work. This is an essential step in the successful delivery of our customer’s acquisitions.  

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Ability and willingness to work well within a team, as well as independently; enthusiasm and flexibility appreciated.

  • Strong administrative, professional, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

  • Experience safely handling and packing artworks with a vast knowledge of installing artwork is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of and interest in contemporary art is a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have a flexible schedule and able to work weekends as the person in this position may be required to stay for openings, viewings, or other requests.

  • Proficiency in Google Suite

Gallery Support Staff/ Paid Internship:

The position: Build your art gallery knowledge. Experience all aspects of running the Gallery, including customer relations, art installation/display, exhibition management, art history, and sales. 

It is a unique position offering responsibility for administrative duties, the opportunity to work with our roster of artists, and assisting the gallery owner and managers in and outside of the Galleries.

This internship is paid and college credit can be arranged. 

Required Hours: 10-20 hours per week

 

Qualifications and duties include but not limited to:

  • Self‐motivated, highly organized, able to handle multiple tasks at once

  • Possess strong verbal communication skills

  • Ability and willingness to work well within a team, as well as independently; enthusiasm and 

  • flexibility appreciated.

  • Strong administrative, professional, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Strong knowledge of and interest in contemporary art is a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have a flexible schedule and able to work weekends as the person in this position may be required to stay for openings, viewings, or other requests.

  • Knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook), photo editing and video is a plus
